Preface: I'm very new to all this and just had some questions pertaining to plugin storage and organisation of that data.

1) Does the selected source folder push its data to the destination folder?
2) Does the destination folder return data to the source folder?
3) In plugins like SABnzbd how does one get the downloaded data out of the jail and onto a network accessible share? Or can it only be streamed by plugins like Plex wherein you would set the source for it to be the other plugins downloaded media folder?

The source and destination folders are not two separate locations that are synchronized periodically; they are essentially the same location. Any changes made to the source directory outside of the jail (files added, deleted, or modified) appear immediately in the destination directory inside the jail, and vice versa. This is then the answer to your third question.

For example, let's suppose that your volume is called tank, and you have a share on that called share. You'd set up the storage in your sabnzbd plugin with a source directory of /mnt/tank/share, and a destination directory of /mnt/share. You'd configure sabnzbd to save downloaded material in /mnt/share. As soon as it's saved there, it is in your network share.

@Xander May :
These are good questions, and you are smart to be thinking about it. danb35's answer may be a little difficult to understand - don't fret, as it is not very intuitive. If you need help with this concept and know somebody who is familiar with Linux or FreeBSD, ask them to explain it to you. Sit down with someone who can draw it out on a piece of paper - it will make more sense.
