In the GUI, when I click drives I have a phantom drive, da8. This is on an LSI 9211-8i flashed with IT firmware. During boot I get an error that the geometry doesn't match on /dev/da8, go figure; it doesn't exist. The card is fully populated. It doesn't seem to cause any problems, just curious. Attached should be a screen shot, has anyone ever seen this before or have an explanation?

[root@homenas] ~# smartctl -a /dev/da8
smartctl 5.42 2011-10-20 r3458 [FreeBSD 8.2-RELEASE-p6 amd64] (local build)
Copyright (C) 2002-11 by Bruce Allen, http://smartmontools.sourceforge.net

/dev/da8: Unknown USB bridge [0x154b:0x0048 (0x4096)]
Smartctl: please specify device type with the -d option.

Use smartctl -h to get a usage summary

Thanks,
Bill

Are you sure that's not your USB FreeNAS drive?

Code:
camcontrol devlist

gpart show

sqlite3 /data/freenas-v1.db "select * from storage_disk;"

Thanks, paleoN. I feel stupid. Ok, adaX should be the motherboard, daX should be the LSI 9111-8i... Was until I added the HBA card.

Okay, I really feel dumb at this point... Guess what gpart show reads from Putty.. :)

=> 63 7831467 da8 MBR (3.7G)
63 1930257 1 freebsd [active] (943M)
1930320 63 - free - (32K)
1930383 1930257 2 freebsd (943M)

3863664 41328 4 freebsd (20M)

Question answered, thanks.

Thanks,
Bill

It was an easy mistake to make with your setup in particular. FreeBSD likes to detect USB drives as daX. Of course daX drives are also "da SCSI direct access disk", from FreeBSD Handbook.
