persistent motd in jails

I configure all my jails manually to keep track of changes and or alterations i write them to /etc/motd so that when i login i get a quick overview of what's where and why.

quite useful since some of the jails run for months without issue. Now when i update or upgrade the jails these motd can get lost afaik. So i am wondering if i can symlink from my general share somehow, or any other smart solutions.

Bonus: are there any good guides on how and what you can automate in these motd's ?
