Permissions problem

I re-installed FreeNAS on my system (2 x 3TB drives, ZFS, mirror) and everything seemed to go smoothly, including the installation and configuration of various plugins (like sickbeard etc.) But when I tried to donwload stuff, I got into all sorts of problems with permissions. So I tried to 'open' all folders ('change permissions' under storage|Volumes; all boxes checked; change permissions recursively), those changes don't stick. It does seem to accept it, but when I go back into it, the changes are gone again. Does anybody have an idea what I might be doing wrong? Thanks!

I also did a chmod -R 777, but I again got a lot of error messages. I then rebooted and got the following

can you ping your jail?

did you set your network properties? (subnet and gateway?)

Sure. And the plugins do work (through their webguis) - so as I type this, sabnzbd is actually downloading some stuff. But sickbeard isn't starting up (and that was the one that said it couldn't save anything).

UPDATE: It seems to me that the chmod command (AND rebooting, I guess) DID solve the permission issue. After rebooting, I noticed it can take quite a while before the icons of the plugins show up in the menu. As to Sickbeard - I removed it and then reinstalled it. It now seems to run fine. So up and onwards to the next challenges: mounting an external ntfs-drive to import loads of files; and getting the myplex hookup in sickbeard to work properly (I keep getting a 'test notice fail'). But that'll be for a new thread.
