Hi All.

I've just finished taking very large, heavy hammer to my old branded NAS after it let me down when I needed it most. That's the third, and last, time it'll do that.

When I asked my local LUG for recommendations for a replacement they all responded "FreeNAS", without exception: not too much enthusiasm then!
So one download, install, watch the easily found "Windows shares" video by M0nkey_, and bingo!! Happy Bunny!!

Looking forward to a long and happy NAS life.

Same thing happened to me. I was running ZFS on a Ubuntu 14.04 server (which is how I got involved with the LUG to start with!) and when it finally died they suggested FreeNAS.

It's not completely surprising. As an example, iXsytems attends the Ohio Linuxfest. Dru gave a presentation on 11.0 last year.

I can't even update Ubuntu 16.10 to 17.10 without jumping through flaming hoops, so it's no wonder that FreeNAS is appealing even to Linux folks.
