PATA CF Adapter or USB Stick?

I'm going to install FreeNAS on a motherboard that has a PATA interface (and 6 SATA for my drives) and i have no intention of using PATA drives. I do have a PATA/CF adapter. Is there any advantage to using a PATA/CF setup over a USB key as the boot media? I still have a physical CD drive on the PATA buss I can use for installs for future upgrades either way.

If you can boot from PATA a CF may have a faster write speed and lower latency for writes. Of course, it could also be worse. It's something you'd have to compare for yourself or just test it. I prefer the USB myself because if it fails I can be back up and running in minutes without disassembling the server.
