Dears,

I hope this post finds you well,
I'm planning to have my own cloud @ home so I check many vendors such as WD and Netgear, there systems are limited and hard to improve later.
So I heard about OwnCloud so I would like to ask does it have good management like WD you can create users and which folder they can access, mobile app ... etc are these features available also on OwnCloud ?

Regards.

Absolutely! Be prepared to tinker though! This is not an out-of-the-box experience for the average consumer. It is however much more open and configurable than any of the off-the-self products. I built my own several years ago and haven't looked back!

B.T.W, It's Nextcloud now ;)

It is pretty much tinker free actually. I had to add one line to the config.php file for apps but that's it.
If you look at expanding NC to use spreed and collabora then some real tinkering will be required.
The plugin, or the package is free, the apps are free. So yes, it is all "free" except for your administration time, your power, your internet.
There are free DAV clients etc, but I caved in and purchased DAVDroid for Cal/CardDAV on our android devices.
