out of the blue, no networking

Hi, today I encountered a weird situation. I have a freenas box that provides iscsi storage for two esxi hosts at home. Today while I was working(at 11am aprox), the vpn died and never came back. When i got home, I checked the freenas box and it had no networking.
What I observed:
-both interfaces showed no carrier
-both interfaces showed valid ip configurations

what I tried:
-restarting networking services with /etc/rc.d/netif restart
-deleting the interfaces with the cli and recreating them.
-rebooting the server.

only after rebooting the server I got it to work again.
I upload a zip with most of the files I could get out of the var\db\system\syslog-ea02119b0df4495ba64ec1dbdd61ed06 folder, if you need something else please tell me. This is not supposed to happen and its worse if I cant tell why.

You might want to submit a bug report so the developers can look at the situation. They can usually determine what the cause is.
