hi guys,

i logged into my free nas, and got a cricial notice saying one of my disc has been degraded.

Data

RAIDZ1: DEGRADED ada2 , ada1 , UNAVAIL

RAIDZ1: ONLINE da0 , da1 , da2

RAIDZ1: ONLINE da3 , da4 , da5

Am i at big risk of losing my data??

When i go to my disc page, i see all my harddrives, but i cna't tell which one is bad. What's my next step? how can i find the bad one. annd once i do, do i just swap it and that's it?

The risk is not zero...

If you lose ada2 or ada1 before you can complete a replacement/resilver of the unavailable disk, your pool will be lost.

If you're not sure which disk it is, you can do a few things...

One would be to look at the serial numbers in the disks view and eliminate the missing one from inside the case and remove that one and replace it.

Otherwise, if you have activity lights on your drives (or do it by sound/vibration if not)... dd if=/dev/ada1 of=/dev/null bs=1024k count=5000 Vary the disk in the if= part to get each disk to do a bunch of reads to "raise its hand", eliminate the bad one.

Once you know which disk and have a replacement ready...

I would make an extra full backup immediately. You have lost your redundancy, so any further issue will probably render your data gone.

thanks, im going to replace disc asap.

please remind me. i remeber when i set it up. i used 3X10TB and then i bought 6X8TB.

i'm going to have to match my 10TB right? if i buy anything larger, the pool will only use 10TB?

also, what's the process? do i just unplug the degraded drive, and plug in the new one and that's it? Freenas will knwo what to do or do i have to go somewhere in the menu and do something else
