I´m building a new Snapshot backup replicator server right now and after some problem with a Supermicro expander backplane (an old BPN-SAS-836EL1 model that doesn´t works with 4TB hdd even if they are connected to a LSI sas9201 HBA) i´m changing it with a SAS-836TB Backplane.

I´ll fill you in as soon as it arrives.

What's the server model itself?

SAS-836TB Backplane.
Did you mean a TQ backplane?

Why TQ? backplane-A would give you the same passthrough without the cabling nest of having 16 SATA cables running from the backplane to the HBA.
Another choice is SAS2-836EL1 or EL2 -- although this would restrict you to SAS2 only and if you eventually want to have disks with 12Gbps then this might not be the best option to upgrade to now.

@Inxsible: Yes a 836QT model.
I was scared that the screw holes doesn't match with my chassis, the 836QT backplane has the same dimension and it fits perfect on my SuperChassis 836E1-R800B.
The other reason i found only a new SAS2-836EL1 that cost 330 € on Ebay while a used 836QT only 70€, plus 40€ for 4x SFF-8087 cables :-D
I know...it is a very low budget project.

@Inxsible: What do you mean with backplane-A?

Anyway at the end my backup server is running. I have one ZFS Pool with 2 Vdev (5x4TB + 4x3TB RAIDZ1) as a backup of a ZFS Pool with 5 Vdev mirror (10x4TB).
The next step is to configure a Semi automatic Replication Task between the two FreeNAS System... :-D

Cheers
