Hello,

I downloaded the image and set it up on a 8GB USB drive I had. I have used other NAS products, but I have always wanted to try FreeNAS.

My setup:

Intel S5000VSA board with 16GB ECC RAM and 1 Xeon5160 @ 3.0GHz. For hard drives, I took what was lying around which was : 2GB WD Green, disabled the autopark, 1.5GB Samsung F1, Dell(WD OEM) Enterprise 750GB and a Seagate 750GB. I will get newer drives the next time I am out, I am trying to have around 5-10TB available for testing out this NAS-OS.

I am really interested in ZFS, and I might even jack my ram up to 32GB if things go well. I know Linux, so BSD is slightly different but manageable.

So far, I am up and going, saw all my hardware and I have a ZFS volume made which yields me 2TB of space, working to get the CIFS working so I can copy c test data from a Winx86 box.

Glad to be here!

David
