Newb Question

So I've just installed FreeNAS for the first time, and I have a few questions. I have set it up with a RaidZ2 volume using 6 3TB disks. I was under the impression that FreeNAS would send emails if it detected that the raid was degraded. I've set the email address of the root user to my email. Then to test, I unplugged a hard drive, and nothing changed, I received no emails, the GUI even said my volumne was healty.

Am I missing something here ??? Is this normal ?
