Hello everyone. I finally managed to replace the unsupported Raid card with a new HBA card. Just got it in today.
I noticed that one of the serial numbers was not showing up so I searched for a solution on the forum.
From what I understand its a firmware driver compatibility issue between de card and freenas that could be the problem.
People seem to recommend to "update to firmware driver 16" ?
Now to be honest, I know windows, and I know Mac and om not afraid to screw around with those system. I even built a Hackintosh for fun. But FreeNAS, still scares me a bit. I try not to mess with it to much. I am to scared to upgrading to a newer version of freenas fearing to loose my precious data.
I am running FreeNAS-9.2.1.5-RELEASE-x64 (80c1d35)
The card I got in is a OEM LSI HBA 9211-8i.
Everything seems to work I only mis one serial number.

Could some one please help me a step by step action plan how to update this thing without any risk to my setup or data? My knowledge of freenas is limited I could really use some help.

p.s. "One of my ideas was to remove it from my freenas server and place the card in my hackintosh and try to find a way to flash it using OSX somehow. not sure whats the way to go"

Just use sas2flash. There are instructions all over the forum and the web.

I have found some on youtube (that did not go very smoothly https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IPcY32r0fxk) and a lot of discussions on this forum where to find the correct older versions of firmware I apparently need, without an answer where to download it from. I know RTFF is an easy way to redirect people back in the sea of multi page discussions where you have to find the correct voice over all the other wrong voices and miscommunications, but it often leads me into trouble and a lot of trail and errors. This is usually not a big problem, I love trail and errors as much as the next guy, but when I am trying not to loose 45TB of data I tend to post something like this post to try and make sense of it all. Hoping someone can give a link to the "correct guide" or write one to help with this.

Does your card have IT firmware on it or do you need to crossflash it still?

I think if you run sas2flash -list it can show you what firmware you have it on.

Here is a thread I posted in describing how to crossflash
