I am new to the world of NAS. I have worked on pc’S for about 25 years in the home user repair space. But never on a NAS.

I found a Dell T410 for under 100$ on the market. So I bought it. I want to backup my son movies and stream them to his TV and back up photos.

I have a S300 add on card in this system and I need to replace it. It is garbage!! I would like to keep the hot swap bay use but I know I need an HBA card. Does anyone have any recommendations on what card is the best to use and is there a way to keep the backplane? Or is it just best to rip out the backplane and use sas/sata cables?

Thank you in advance

I see that some of those would have shipped with a Perc H200... if you have one of those, you can flash it to IT firmware and you already have the right HBA for TrueNAS/ZFS. It would also already be connected to the backplane correctly, I guess.

Given that, if you don't have one, maybe try to get one, which would then be able to connect to the backplane in place of whatever other PERC controller was there.

Would the H200 be able to handle drives larger than 3TB?
