Multiple volumes

Hello,

I have been running FreeNAS 7.x version the last 3.5 years. Setup is a 4 disk 2 TB raid 5 (3ware 9650).

I am looking install the latest version of FreeNAS but this time running Raid 10 :). I remember for my last setup, I needed (wanted 3 partitions) so I had to use a utility to accomplish this. I remember it was done in a command line after I installed the OS into the usb drive.

For this new release, could I have many different volumes on one large disk and not to have to deal with partitions? I like to setup mine so it could be CIFS, iSCSI, NFS

First of all FreeNAS 8.x and 9.x is using a completely different code base than the old FreeNAS 7.x, which is continued under the name NAS4Free.

If you still intend to use FreeNAS 9, you could also switch to the ZFS file system with it's software raid capabilities and use data sets. Have a look into this excellent presentation by cyberjock and think about it.
