Multiple crashes/freezes

Hey people,

I'm having some issues with my server lately. Last Friday it randomly froze up, giving me this mail:

I was away thats weekend, and I couldn't access my NAS, so I couldn't do anything. When I came back on Sunday, I realized that I can't do anything - GUI didn't work, SSH asked for username, but froze when trying to check the passphrase, KVM in IPMI froze as well. I did a power cycle and it rebooted. I then updated to the current stable FN 11 build (from FN 11).

Yesterday, I got this mail:

Couldn't access my NAS again, had to reboot it with IPMI. zpool status -x said that one of the drives had 4 checksum errors, but that it was fixing it. After rebooting, I got this mail:

The volume Data state is ONLINE: One or more devices has experienced an unrecoverable error. An attempt was made to correct the error. Applications are unaffected.


I ran a scrub and it didn't output any errors.

Just now, my NAS froze again. GUI doesn't come up, SSH says network connection refused, and KVM looked like this:

I hit enter, then it asked me for a login:

I didn't enter any password because I wasn't sure which one. It froze in the last login, wanted to use my normal root pw then.

Not sure what's going on. I recently migrated to a new case, but everything worked fine for about a week, then these errors came up. Need to figure out now where the issue is. It's the 3rd crash in 5 days. Any ideas?

This and this thread led me to believe that it does have something to do with my HDD. I'll post the output of both zpool status and smart tests of all drives here, maybe anyone sees something. I believe that the drive with the checksum error was ada0. Maybe it is noteworthy that I am at 92% capacity? I know it should be below 80%, I'll upgrade soon.

Edit: Now that I think about it, it makes sense that it is ada0 that's causing this. I saw the name ada0p2 somewhere, not sure where. I believe ada0p1 is used for swap, ada0p2 is the main partition. I read somewhere that the swap error is related to a failing drive that acts as swap drive or something. As ada0 gave me the checksum error yesterday, and is acts as swap drive (or however you name that) it's most likely failing, right? Why does the SMART test look fine then? Anything else I can do to verify this?

If this is still an issue, please create a report at bugs.freenas.org and post the issue number here. Attach a debug to the report, which will hide the report until a dev has a chance to investigate.

Shall I use a certain log file with a certain logging level or just what I posted above?

Did you ever do any testing of ada0? You might offline the drive and see how the pool does. If all is well you have your answer. :)

Edit: Actually this is insecure because I'm running a RAIDz2, and if another drive fails I'm screwed, right?
