Hey guys,

I currently have freenas running very stably on a Dell T130 server with the following components:

Dell T130 mobo (c236 chipset)
Intel Pentium G4500
Dell PERC H730 (HBA mode)
WD red HDDs

I'm upgrading because the system is used mainly as a media server and the CPU struggles to transcode 4K.
I've ordered:

Supermicro X11SCH-F-O
Intel i3-9100

Just wanted your opinions on whether these two components are good upgrades and should I just do away with the H730 RAID card and use the onboard sata ports instead?

Thanks in advance

If it's running stable... Why not just upgrade the CPU? You can drop a e3-1270v5 in it for around $110, and have better Passmark numbers than the i3-9100. If I remember correctly you can move the T130 to the E3-12xx v6's with a BIOS update.

The t130 I have is a decommissioned Nasuni Filer server so the bios has been modified and I've never been able to reset it.
Also the pentium I have actually has an iGPU, it's just the t130 doesn't support them unfortunately.

It's so so much the passmark but more getting hardware transcoding working
