Obviously someone at ASRock Rack said "Let's throw this massive CPU socket onto a miniITX board, cram four SO-DIMM slots in there and sell this to people who need a crapton of compute, with not that much RAM and PCIe connectivity."

That is idiotic... the one thing that makes E5 so amazing (high RAM capacity) is the one thing they neutered.

• Surprisingly strong single-threaded performance
• Smashing multi-threaded performance
• Idle power is higher than Haswell Xeon E3 - probably due to the integrated 10GbE stuff, I guess.
• Performance per Watt while doing actual work is said to be much better than Haswell Xeon E3.

Looks like Xeon D is a strong performer.

I know I said it before in another thread but I sure hope the performance is indicative of whats in store for Skylake. I'm long overdue for a new desktop and I'm waiting on Skylake before I pull the trigger.
