Low-Power modes

My file server is idle most of the time, and certainly for long periods of time between hits. How do I get started in activating the various power-saving features of the system? (I even made sure to get a power supply that supports the new Haswel sleep mode)

Did you enable powerd in Settings -> Advanced?

powerd is mostly ineffectual these days. It basically just tries to manually ramp the CPU speed up and down based on the load, which is something modern CPU's do more effectively in silicon. It was pretty helpful back in the mid-2000's in the hi-watt-burn era, when silicon wasn't really showing many signs of self-control.
