About 18 months ago I built a server and installed freenas. Thats as fare as I got before realizing I was in over my head. The system has been sitting un-used sense. There is absolutely nothing stored on it.
The plan was to use it for my personal media storage and with plex.

I’m looking for someone in the Phoenix area to get everything set up and running. Is there a recourse for finding professionals experienced with freenas by location?

Any help would be greatly appreciate.

What hardware did you get and what is the problem you are having. It is likely that you can get the system going, you just need a little guidance.

Sorry guys the holiday kept me pretty busy.
This was my first time using command line so just installing freenas was frustrating. Then once I got it installed I spent a week trying to set up CA’s and finely gave up. I couldn’t even get the fans to stop surging off and on.
There where so many resources and materials to read I got lost in all the information.

supermicro X11SSH-LN4F
Intel Xeon E3-1240V6
Kingston 32gb ddr4
4 4gb we red hard drives

Why did you set that up at all? That is not integral to the function of FreeNAS. If you are using it in a home environment it is not needed at all.

You probably are trying to run low speed fans without resetting the low speed threshold in the IPMI configuration. It is a common problem. If I recall correctly, it is the "Lower Non-Recoverable" threshold that needs to be adjusted. What is happening is this, the fans run so slowly that the management system thinks they have stalled, so the system ramps up to 'un-stall' the fans. Then they slow back down and the cycle repeats. You just have fans that run a little slower than the minimum speed the system is expecting. Good news, it is adjustable

Here is the link to the resource:

Learning how to manage your FreeNAS system is important unless you want to be calling on a support technician every time there is the least little hiccup, like a failed drive. Looking at the hardware you listed it appears that you may not have followed best practices with regard to how your system is configured. Did you read the guidance on this site before your initial purchase and configuration?

You should take a look at this setup guide:

Uncle Fester's Basic FreeNAS Configuration Guide

Which version of FreeNAS did you try? I'm not aware of any command line usage necessary for installing FreeNAS.

Not for basic install, but you do need a little if you want to add some of the monitoring scripts. Also, some of the guides in the forum have the users do burn-in testing of the drives using the command line. He was talking about setting up CA's though and that is certainly not needed for a basic home NAS and media server.

Thanks for the suggestions. As for the ca’s I’m glad to here I don’t have to mess with them.

As for hardware I did take notes from the uncle fester’s guide among others. Did I do some thing wrong?

I have freenas 11 installed. When I said command line what I meant was ikvm. I’m running the server headless so I’m using ipmi and ikvm for the first time.

I also did the break in suggested some where in one of the guides. I’m going to go through the uncle fester’s guide again instead of trying to use multiple guides simultaneously.
