I downloaded some updates and during 25% applying one it froze and so after an hour I manually rebooted the syste, web inteface gave the message "Unhandled Exeption" yet my Plex server was available and running.

I tried applying the update again after reverting to a backup but the same thing happened - it keeps using the already-downloaded packages used to update, could one of them been corrupted during download? That's all I can think of, and I can't figure out how to force it to download and then apply them rather then just use the ones it already has - so - quite simply I just need to know how to locate them via SSH and delete them. Apologies if I went on a bit but just wanted to explain my reasoning.

Thanks,
para

Are you sure there is enough space on the boot device (from System -> Boot)? If not, try removing some BEs you do not intent to boot into.

The primary boot device is a 32gig SD card mirrored to a 64gig USB stick, using about 1% of the storage.

I did actually add a windows live USB stick to the USB 3.0 port on the back of my Gen8 MicroServer to boot into using the integrated management console by adjusting the boot options, that sounds like it could have caused it do you think? I'd still like to try deleting the packages, I've removed the windows stick but would rather redownload and apply than risk having to go to extra restoring config effort etc since this is still relatively new to me.

Thanks again,
para

That's a typo, right?

No, I mean the FreeNAS OS boot devices use only about 1% of the devices they are installed on, right? I mean it might be a bit bigger but not by much right, FreeNAS has a pretty small installation footprint does it not?

Thanks

FreeNAS, freshly installed, needs about 4GB total (used+free space requirement). Every update is done by updating the current environment - meanwhile, the old versions are still present in older snapshots of the old environments.

The more space you have, the more environments you can keep (useful for diagnosing weird bugs, for instance).

Ok right, well I'm not sure what your point is but all I was trying to say initially was that the boot devices are 32gb and mirrored to a 64gb device, and I don't have very many snapshots so the size is very small, so in conclusion - no I don't believe the devices do not have enough free space.

I logged into the server using WinSCP and browsed around trying to find where the downloaded update packages are but I can't see them anywhere - does nobody seriously know where they are? I can't find anything via google on where they are held temporarily either.

Ok well nothing worked so I found where the update files were stored, removed with rm command via shell and tried updating again and it worked fine. I'd post where but I forgot now it was yetserday. meant to update since then but forgot.
