Keep getting update available emails Changelog: None?

Is this a bug, why am I getting update emails, without any updates in them?

You have to update your box via the web GUI. Go to system->update.

Yeah sorry to be a tool but I agree with this, this update feature is fantastic but it does worry me quite a bit.

Is there any risk if you don't update in a long time and let the updates build up that some of them may conflict with one and other as they install?
It's difficult to explain, but the intention of the updates I figure is to update pretty regularly? If one were to not do this, could some kind of really important kernel patch (I dunno!?) come down in an update but it's dependent upon an earlier patch you haven't installed yet?

The builds issued in parallel with the updates are cumulative versions with all preceding updates, so I am guessing the updates are too. At least, when I have missed an update I don't remember having to do the preceding one before the latest.

The latest one accidentally included the entire changelog since 9.3-RELEASE, it seems.

I suspect the blank changelog, followed by later changelog listing everything, has to do with some glitches in the source data for the changelog mails. Look at this changelog, which I saw mentioned in bug #8457. Notice how that file groups the changes found in each update. Sean Fagan's note #3 in that bug mentions looking in that changelog for the current build and the pending one.

But that changelog shows update 201502271818 followed by update 201503120630. The updates in-between those two are missing - on my NAS, that's 201503070129 and 201503071634. So when I downloaded those two updates last weekend, my changelog list was empty, since ${pending} wasn't in the master changelog, and when I updated to 201503120630 today, the changelog was huge, because ${current} wasn't in the master changelog.

I see that a second update was dropped today, 201503122300. When I hit "Check Now" in System/Update, I get a reasonable list of changes, since both ${current} and ${pending} are in that master changelog.

So apparently there was a hiccup in updating the master changelog, and now that that has passed, things should be back to normal (other than the bugs that were fixed in last weekend's drops aren't in the master changelog).

That matches the list for 201503122300 at that URL. But once I install the update, the current build on my machine is 201503130047, a build number that doesn't appear in that master changelog. If I run System/Update/Check Now, I get a list of everything in the master.

Clearly, there's still a problem with the build numbers being generated. Also, when I updated this morning, the system didn't reboot. Instead, I saw an error:

I rebooted manually, and things seem to be OK (Verify Installation passed), but I think I'll wait a couple days before trying another update.

I'm on "FreeNAS-9.3-STABLE-201503131709" - but I've only got an uptime of 17 minutes, I said screw it and deployed those updates this morning.

I got yet another update notification email last night, this time containing all the updates for the last several months.
I am losing faith in the update process. What is this doing to my FreeNAS install if I continue to trust the update system? I know the new 9.3 build incorporates a rollback system, am I cluttering my USBkey up somehow with all these snapshots of my configuration?

Is this going to be fixed?

Sometimes with any shell in the path, sometimes with /bin/sh explicitly (better), sometimes with no shell at all, hoping that nobody has smashed the execute permissions on the scripts in the repo. My system would not update from the penultimate to the last update, although it claimed to have the files available. I booted into the next previous boot image and the latest update worked fairly uneventfully, apart from a verification problem with apparently the checksum for resolv.conf being wrong. Which does not seem likely to be important.

I can't seem to update either, I click update on the ginormous changelog update and it will sit at "Installing base-os 1/3" forever.
