Now that I got my freeNAS running for several weeks, I'm getting into plugins. I've started with PlexMedia and got this running now through my TV. I'm trying to figure out if I should include /mnt/tank/jails as part of snapshots and also add to replication. What happens to the media mounted in PlexMedia jail, is it snapshot(ed) and replicated twice?

So, is there a recommended way to backup jails? Rsync with exclusion rule of "/mnt/media"?

are you trying to backup your media, just then plex metadata, or the jail os files?

Media is being backed up already from FreeNAS machine using replication. I'm trying to determine if I should be backing up whole jail dataset using replication to protect metadata and plex setup, then how would it work because media is also mounted in jail. If replication for jail dataset is not a viable option, I'll use rsync and set up to exclude media mounted in jail.

I would personally would only backup plexs metadata, should be somewhere under /usr/pbi/plex-amd64.

but if you want, replication of the jail dataset will work fine. zfs replication doesn't care where/if they are mounted. you're replicating a snapshot of the dataset, zfs doesn't care about the files.
