Hi,

I am getting ready to move data, destroy a volume, recreate it with more drives. I am looking to get rid of some data I dont need to make a smaller backup file.

So I have been deleting data from "Pool". The only thing I have on "Pool" is a single windows share (storage).

Freenas says the data is 9.4 TB which is the same number it said I had before i started deleting things.

Windows says I have 7TB of data & the backup I am using is 8TB. I rebooted the server to see if the deleted data would show up as free space but that didnt do it.

What i want to do is take my 6x 2tb volume, destroy it, make it a raidz1 so I have enough space, then wipe my 6x 6TB in favor of a 8x 6TB raidz2. So i have plenty of moving to do. Of course thanks to the forum I have the command to move via SSH which will speed this up plenty!

Any idea about the missing space?

Thanks,
Rich

Do you have any snapshots of the deleted data. If do, that's probably why you aren't seeing any freed up space. Delete the snapshots to reclaim the space.

Great point! How do i delete multiple snapshots? I have 2000 of them - can it be done without clicking on 2000 check boxes?

One option is to destroy the dataset. This will also destroy all snapshots from that dataset. If there's any data on the dataset that you want to keep you could copy it to another dataset before destroying the original dataset.

Another option from the Storage -> Snapshot menu is to filter the results to limit the displayed results to only the snapshots you want to destroy. Then select the "All" link at the bottom of the screen to display all of the snapshots meeting your filter criteria. Then:

1) click the checkbox for the first snapshot;
2) scroll down to the last snapshot;
3) hold down Shift on your keyboard;
4) click the checkbox for the last snapshot.

It may take a moment, but this should select all of the desired snapshots. Then click the "Destroy " button at the bottom of the screen.
