Sorry if this has already been posted, but does anyone know how to install FreeNas 8 on a Dell PowerEdge 2650? Thanks!

I haven't tried on anything quite that old. What problems are you running into?

Thanks Louisk for the reply. I haven't installed it yet. Just wondering how to install it on a server with a raid card. If there was anything special I needed to do.

Yes, remove the raid card.

You can either remove the raid card, or create a collection of raid0 arrays, one for each drive. I had to do this with a perc because FreeNAS wouldn't see it as a JBOD/passthrough.

If its only 32bit, you're out of luck for ZFS. With the cost of a 2850 or 2950 being so cheap, I'd probably get something a little newer, although the 2950 will still only go up to 32G.

With the raid0 arrays would I still have the hot-swap capabilities? Yeah, I would love to get a newer one but this one was given to me. I'd love to be able to utilize it.

Yes. You just have an extra step of dealing with the raid controller to create a new RAID0 when you replace a drive. Then you deal with ZFS in the normal way.
