Why is the console so slow when setting up networking? Just deleting an interface take 1-2 minutes. I've tried it connected and unconnected.

Any ideas?

HTH do we know.

Please provide detailed hardware information and FreeNAS version, per the forum rules at the top of the page.

Even if it did take 1-2 minutes on your hardware, i wouldn't worry about it. How often do you need to change it?

I'll tell you why it takes so long.

The entire network stack has to be torn down and rebuilt when you do a network change. That's what takes so long. I do TrueNAS/FreeNAS support and I will freely admit that when I have to redo network configs, that minute or two is the longest 2 minutes of my life. :P

This is a monster machine (24 threads, 64 GB) so that shouldn't be a problem.

Thanks cyberjock for the answer (that I was expecting). It's a pain only when I am starting a new machine.

Your system may be a monster, but network stack teardown and building is very much a single threaded process. I've worked with far more powerful systems than yours, and I can tell you that it doesn't seem to be any faster when using a top-of-the-line TrueNAS vice an old 5 year old TrueNAS.

It's.... just....slow.....
