Identify hardware in running machine

I have inherited a production server that is behaving badly. I intend to make a post about it in the applicable section of the forum, but first I want to identify the hardware so I can make a proper post. Given that I can't take the machine offline to inspect its insides, what's the best way to find and format the relevant info? A full dmidecode dump? Careful description of the server chassis and visible attached devices? Something else?

Does it have an IPMI or any type of management interface?

It's a Supermicro server, so it may have IPMI, but none of the onboard NICs are connected. Only an add-in 10 GBE adapter is in use.
