I just noticed my post count. This post should be my post #5000. Almost four years here, hammering out answers. It's been amazing to see FreeNAS evolve and grow in capability over the years, and it is interesting to imagine what the coming years will bring...

Congrats to post #5000!
Thanks for the time you spent in this forum.
My choice for FreeNAS was also based on the extremely helpful forum and people like you posting here.
On many more posts!

Well, thanks. It's been an interesting experience and I've enjoyed meeting lots of great users. FreeNAS seems to draw a certain kind of crowd, specifically DIY'ers who want something better than the commercial NAS alternatives. Over the years, I've seen too many techie people who are kinda lazy and just rely on sticking all their files on a single PC hard drive (or USB thumb drives, or burning ISO's, etc). From my perspective, I want stuff to be accessible on the network, which means some sort of fileserver, and then I want it to be something I can trust, which means ZFS. Most of the people who come here have at least some part of that mindset.

I couldn't agree more. The people on this forum are great. It still amazes me the seemingly concentrated collection of knowledgeable people here willing to freely share with with others and I am eternally grateful for that. You guys "in the biz" that provide your help are what makes it so a product like freenas can succeed on the level that it has. Sure it is a great product that can survive on it's own merits but it's the contributors on this forum that make it accessible for us peons.

I find myself spending an awful lot of time here as well but for different reasons. Mine is to seek knowledge and the only way that has been possible is through the generous offerings of all the members here.

Just trying to be nice. I figured any men would rather "it" grow by 10 times instead of 3 times. :)

But seriously, thanks for all the helpful insight you provide!

Congratulations on the accomplishment!

With @Ericloewe posting in the English, German, and Portuguese forums he'll catch up with you someday. ;-)

Yes, he is impressively prolific. ;-)

Only because the abundant reading material made it easy to get started. ;)

Thanks for that, by the way!

Is this the point where I normally say something awful?

It'll be this forum's little secret that you're secretly a nice person. :p

I'm not buyin' that! A Leopard cannot change his spots, once a Grinch, always a Grinch ;)
He is however, the most informative and humorous computer geek I've ever come across!

I'd be keeping up with him, but I spend almost all of my time working on samba servers. I was prolific till I realized that sometimes drinking is the only appropriate response to samba problems.

I would agree, but 10 times would be just TOO BIG. :)

At least with me. HAHAHAHAHA
