How do I SSH into my freenas box remotely using DDNS?

you need:
a computer
more than one NIC
a hard drive
a cd/cdrom/usb (installing from USB requires a little trick, but its easy)

You do not load this on your current router, as it is an appliance, and requires x86/x86_64 hardware.

Is there a recommended processor speed/RAM size?

I've only ever had laptops, so is it worth it to buy the individual hardware components to build a second box, or would I be better off spending the ~$750 for the SG125?

I have successfully used a $50 HP thin client from eBay, along with an Intel 4port Gig NIC, for a 100mbps internet connection. When I upgraded to 150mbps service, it couldn't hold it.

Personally, if you have the money, buy the appliance, and you have support from them and no IP address limitations
