How do I install zsh in freenas?

I have a jail with ZSH and tons of software of course, but whenever I need to do something in freenas itself I keep trying to do smart zsh-things and failing.
PKG doesn't work. Ports isn't worth the effort. I could just download the source and make it I suppose, but something tells me that the tools needed for compilation won't be there either...
