Hey

Not really sure if this is freenas area but maybe it is?

I have a 2 nic + setup on my pc.

One of ips is my NAS. My nas is Offline only so no internet access. I was thinking about how to set up email notifications - vm/jail/etc and then I come across hMailServer - looks like nice mini app for email that I can run localy.

I set it up to use my NAS NIC. I tested it with thunderbird on 1 PC. I can send it form/to myself on my local PC. But when I put the same data inside Freenas I'm getting timeout.

From email: nasMonitor@nas.home
Outgoing mail server: 192.168.20.50
Port : 25 /also tried 143.

In hMailServer I went to Settings>protocls>smtp>advanced/bindToLocalIp > 192.168.20.50 And I think thats mostly it.

Not sure but any idea how to configure it to send the email ?

Thanks for help.

Here's the documentation on how to configure e-mail within FreeNAS: http://doc.freenas.org/11/system.html#email

Yeah I did manage to configure it with a standard internet based email. But when I try to use it withg hMailServer for local email - no internet one then I cant send message. Keep getting timeout errors :- ( Tried bunch of different ports/logins etc, no luck so far. I can email myself from PM and I can receive email but not from nass :- (

We use FreeNAS and hMailServer. This is probably more hMailServer related than FreeNAS - you want port 25 in FreeNAS for sending. In hMailServer check what you have setup in Settings, Advanced, IP Ranges. You need to allow unauthenticated SMTP for the local IP. Also, for troubleshooting you can go to Settings, Logging and check Debug, TCP/IP, and SMTP logging and look at the log files that are generated (or from the Status Logging tab).
