I have been doing loads of research on this website and others and I have assembled a list of parts that I would like to use in my build.

1)Would these parts be ok
2) does anyone no any compatibility problems with these parts
3)could anyone recommend any parts that could be better

This motherboard supports a max of 16GB Ram.
8 GB is the minimum for freenas so go for 2x8GB.
The case is huge. Either get a smaller, or -better option- get this but paired with a microATX motherboard which can support 32GB Ram (4 dimms)
In any case, though, 4GB dimms are not a good idea.
You should also consider a better quality PSU. Corsair is a respectable brand, but not all their PSUs are great...

Thanks for the reply

Yes the max supported memory for that board is 16GB

And I was planning on maxing the memory from the 8GB to 16GB in the future.

Why are 4GB DIMMS Recomended

My problem with the MB is choice it's very limited in the U.K. Mostly desktop grade. Could you recommend a better suited board for the same price available in the uk

Could you also recommend a better psu

as for the case I hadn't made up my mind it was a quick addition to put the system into something

Thanks

I am on my smartphone now, so not easy to search, however this microATX Supermicro x10sll-f looks like better choice and it is even cheaper: https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/part/supermicro-motherboard-x10sllf
As for the Ram as I already mentioned, freenas minimum recommended is 8GB. Start adding storage and you need more. In any case, though, if you really want to start with 8GB (not recommended), 4GB dimms are a bad idea because - especially with the asrock mobo which has only two slots - it would mean throw away the 2x4GB and replace them with 2x8.
But even with the supermicro which has 4 dimm slots, it is a better idea to get 8GB sticks because you will be once again in the same situation in case you need to go above 16GB in the future.
As for the PSU, this Seasonic S12G-450 is far superior: https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/part/seasonic-power-supply-s12g450

I appreatiate yours and anybody else's responses .

Yes I have looked at that board instead of the asrock myself the only problem I can find is it's very hard to find ram for that board in uk pc parts picker doesent even have any ram listed for that board

And yes point taken on the ram thanks

Provided that this is the same Ram as the one I linked above, then I see no issues.
There is a slight possibility that the CPU needs a specific bios version and above in order to work with the motherboard, so
please wait for someone else's opinion, too, on this...

Anybody know if this setup would need a bios update prior to the build ? As I don't have an extra processor to do the update

And there is no crucial memory on the supermicros QVL list is your recomendation still correct
