Help replacing a completely failed drive

Freenas 11.2-U8
CPU - Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E3-1246 v3 @ 3.50GHz
Motherboard - SUPERMICRO MBD-X10SL7-F-O ATX
Memory - 32GB (4 x 8GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM ECC Unbuffered DDR3L 1600 (PC3L 12800)
Hard drives - 4TB WD Reds WD40EFRX (8)

I'm only a novice user though I've had my system up for several years now and Freenas has been great. A few days ago I got a message that my pool was degraded in my daily run output email.

Checking my drives I can see that one of the drives is listed as "UNAVAIL". I have figured out which drive it is and I have a new drive to replace it, but when I try replace it with the new drive which is installed in the tray I get an error in the member disk pull-down menu which says "this value is required" but the pull-down is completely blank.

I have successfully replaced failing drives in the past but this time the drive has completely failed and is missing. I've searched for hours but I can't find directions on how to fix this problem.

If anyone can help me restore my pool to good health I would be very grateful.

Have a look under Storage | Disks.

Give that new disk a wipe and try again.

I've looked at that section of the documentation and it doesn't provide a answer to my problem. Unfortunately the problem is the disk is showing "UNAVAIL" and there's no option to "offline" the disk nor will it allow me to add the disk back in. The pull-down is completely blank.

If the disk is Unavailable, you don't need to do anything more than replace it... with a new disk...

the new drive which is installed in the tray

If that "new" disk isn't properly wiped/prepared, it won't appear in the list when performing the "replace".

What I suggested was to go to the disks list in the GUI and wipe that new disk in order to make it ready to replace the unavailable one with.

That's' the point, the drive no longer appears in the disk view list. The failed drive used to be DA4 and the pool used to be a total of 8 drives.

The disk shows up in the volume status page but it's listed as "UNAVAIL" and I can't remove or replace it... So my question is, how do I replace the drive and restore the pool to full health?

You're using a very old version there...

If you can't see the new disk in the disks list, the chance of using it to replace the failed disk is 0.

Have a look at dmesg output and see if there are any clues about the drive not working.

Check your installation and cabling of the new disk.
