Hi all
I've been running Freenas for about three years now and it has generally been ok. Recently it has not let me create new directories (permission required) where previously I had given myself permission.
So I am here to find out if I should clear the NAS, reinstall Freenas and then put all my data back.

cheers

Roger

Hi Roger,
I'm from another Australian island...
You shouldn't have to reinstall - it would help to know more about your hardware and FreeNAS version in particular, also, how are you trying to create new directories? What guest OS, what kind of shares, etc etc. I'm sure if you search around you'll find what you're after.

I run a PC with Win 10, FreeNAS-9.10.2-U3 (e1497f269
4 x 3Tb WD hard drives.
1 volume with 4 Directories.
It is these directories to which I cannot add folders.
I have been trying to install Owncloud and Plex but that's another story.
Often, when I boot my system it will say cannot connect to all drives.

Regarding plugins - there is/was a bit of to and fro going on with them, so depending on what version you are on will determine your ability to ad the plugins, I assume you're trying to install them as plugins? I *think* the version you are may not have plugin support, it would pay for you to check.
What error do you get when trying to add a folder?
It is somewhat common to get that error on boot as Windows has loaded before networking is fully operational.

For adding folders, I get ' you do not have permission'. I've been through the permissions (I never changed them) but can't find why that would be happening.

I am the only user so I don't have user names or passwords.
At least not yet.
Access to freenas is password protected.
