Assuming price is the same, any preferences between these two HDD's for a simple 6x drive RaidZ2 setup?
Reliability is more of a priority over performance. Drives will be lightly used, home office/storage.

WD REDs.. Lower Power Requirements, Less Heat Generated & Run Quieter.

For your usage the only things you'd gain from the HGSTs would be a slightly larger power bill, greater heat inside the chassis and room and more noise.

I love my reds....but at 5900 RPM i sometimes wish they were 7200....my x14 2TB drives are 7200 and while they run warmer they *feel* a little quicker

Are there any head-parking (WDIdle) issues with the 6TB Reds? I saw a couple of reviews on Amazon that mentioned this was a problem, but Amazon lumps everything together (e.g. 2/3/4/5/6 TB Red drives). I'm guessing NasWare v3.0, which is on the 4/5/6TB Reds, resolves any premature constant head-parking?

I do sometimes need to do full-disk file searches, which would probably benefit from the 7200rpm HGST's, but the idle power consumption jumps up about 45% moving to the HGST's.

6x 6TB Reds use about ~ 33w
6x 6TB HGSTs use about ~ 46w [about 14w more power consumption = $18 more per year in electricity]

What about the Seagate NAS drives? How do they fare? I saw good reviews. Still 5900 RPMs but I am told feel fast. Does anyone have real world experience with them? Reviews are all well & good and seem to be positive, but often are written by people who have just purchased them.

To me the Seagate NAS are very much like the WD RED but they are noisier on the seeks, that's the only difference I saw for now (I have 4x 3TB WD RED + 4x 3TB Seagate NAS in the same RAID-Z3 vdev) ;)
