I have a site thats current HD needs are 400gb and I am building them a server. I am trying to decide on HD Models and Sizes any suggestions?
The Server will be ZFS RaidZ2(unless you can suggest a better alternative and why)
I see the immediate needs of space going up by 200gb as since we will have the space handy ill be doing a lot more imaging of the Desktop HD's but after that I dont see the space requirements skyrocketing anytime in the next few years
My current thoughts are either WD Red NAS 2.5" 1tb drives and then when they need to upgrade in a few years 2tb drives should be readily availiable and I can either add another vdev to the pool or upgrade the current vdev(any pro's/con's aside from the space gain of two vdev's?)
Or going with WD Red 2tb 3.5" drives now and them probably never having to upgrade space but we use more power now.
In either scenario id probably replace all drives every 5yrs anyhow for failure concerns.
Also any suggestions on a case that will house 8 drives would need to be atleast 4 3.5" bays and 4-8 2.5" bays. I really like the LianLi v650 http://www.lian-li.com/en/dt_portfolio/pc-v650/ but cant find it for sale.
