Hello,

Just a quick question, it is supposed that to expand a pool for example 4 drives of 4TB to 4 drives of 10TB you just need to go 1 by 1 with the replacement option in freenas, but going 1 by 1 will make you mix 4TB drives with 10TB, I mean when you replace 2 of them, you will have a system of 28TB or will you still have 16TB and the 10TB drives will not be 100% usable until you complete changing all drives with the 10TB ones, also I am talking about a raidz. I should assume that all information from the 4TB drives will be copied to the 10TB ones, doesn't it?

Also, another question, is it possible to have a running 4 drives in raidz and expand it to 5, 6,7 or 8, etc drives?

Kind regards,
Pedro

The capacity of RAIDZn vdevs is determined by the capacity of the smallest disk in the vdev. Thus, a vdev consisting of 3 x 10 TB disks and 1 x 4 TB disk will have the same capacity as if it were 4 x 4 TB. Once you replace the last 4 TB disk with a 10 TB disk, the capacity will increase.
