For those who were still curious, I had no issues with either of the built-in NICs

I wasn't willing to take the gamble when I ordered my X9SCM-F board a little while back, but glad to hear it.

FreeNAS 9.1.1
CPU: AMD A6-3500
Motherboard: MSI A55M-P33 FM1 A55
RAM: 2 x 8GB Kingston HyperX Blu
USB: Kingston Data Traveller 8GB
HDD: 6 x WD Red 3TB
NIC: Intel Gigabit CT, Intel Pro PT 1000 Dual Port
CASE: Corsair 550D
PSU: Corsair CX500

Notes:
Originally on 8.3.0, upgraded to 8.3.1 --> 8.3.2 --> 9.1.1
Rock solid since February, but fairly low usage profile:
- Store/Share Media
- Document Backup
- Veeam Backup (infrequent)
- ISCSI (ESXI datastores, low usage: ISOs, and VM templates)

I've ordered the ubiquitous IBM M1015, but this will necessitate a motherboard upgrade down the line: the board has only a single PCI-E x16 slot, with a PCI-E x1.

This would only allow me to use the RAID card with the single port desktop adapter.

Planning upgrade to i3-3240 and Supermicro X9SCM-iif + 16GB Kingston ECC. Will post updated specs when upgrade goes through and testing/verification is complete.

Impending build:

Case: Fractal Design Define R4 Black Pearl
also ICY DOCK MB153SP-B 3 in 2 SATA Internal Backplane to fit in the two half-height bays. I'll use that for backing up.

PSU: SeaSonic SSR-360GP 360W ATX12V v2.31 80 PLUS GOLD

Mainboard: SUPERMICRO MBD-X10SL7-F-O (has 14 drive connectors and a USB "A" plug on the motherboard)

CPU: Xeon E3-1245V3 Haswell 3.4GHz
This is the cheapest Xeon v3 to have hyperthreading and GPU.

Cooler: ZALMAN CNPS5X Performa 92mm
only $20 for a big heat sink with a very quiet fan.

drives: 3 × WD Red WD40EFRX 4TB
