Hello! Let's start with this - I have no networking or IT background whatsoever. I'm a video editor, and it's uncommon for me to miss an opportunity to learn something new. I had some PC parts laying around, and with the help of this forum, reddit, countless youtube videos, and ebay, I successfully set up a 10gbe home editing server for my wife and me to share footage and edit directly from the NAS. I'm still ironing out some kinks, making sure things are stable, and of course everything on the NAS is still backed up in many, many other places, because losing my clients' footage is an excellent way to never work again.

Welcome to the forum. And yes I agree, a good backup strategie should be your first concern if your (clients') data is important to you.
