GMAIL Sign-in attempt prevented

Hi I keep getting warnings from gmail about attempted sign in at 3 AM everyday. I started with 587/TLS and got email everyday, then I switched to 465/SSL with smtp.gmail.com and got less emails but occasionally still got same emails.

Anyone knows solution to this?

edit: I do get test emails and the daily report. But in addition to email report I get the sign in attempt prevented emails.

I did generate app password.

That's rather irritating. Does it let you allow the FreeNAS device as a recognized devie?

nope. It only shows my currently logged in laptop session. Odd thing is that I didn't get the attempt prevented email today.

I am thinking if I am on same IP address as freenas and logged in to gmail on my laptop, I don't get the email warning. So odd.

This doesn't sound like the FreeNAS' fault at all. If it were then we'd all have this problem, and it wouldn't work for any of us.

This sounds like some other device that has your username/password (or auth info at the least) but the email is scant on details. :/

Only thing that makes me think that freenas is causing the alerts is the time (3am) that alerts show up. If I allow insecure logins then it will go away. Odd thing is that alerts only show up once in a while.

How about changing the "From Email" to be the same as the Recipient E-Mail? It may simply be thinking that it does not know/trust "root@freenas.local".

I have seen similar issues on other OSes (SME Server which is CentOS based) and the issue was that the email was originating from an unknown/untrusted/non-resovable host... So changing it to did the trick back then.

I have a special account that I use on all my Servers and never leave it set to the defaults.

Also, maybe you could simply add "root@freenas.local" as a "Trusted Sender" in your GMail?

I believe I've seen people recommend using Gmail's aliasing feature for this.

Didn't know about that. While I have an old GMail account I don't really ever use it. Neat trick though.

that is a good point. I was thinking why its root@freenas.local since the hostname is not set to freenas.local on my box. I thought if I set root email then it will work fine but that might be the issue here.
