Finally getting around to putting together some parts I bought ages ago to build a FreeNAS server.
Older Gigabyte MB with AMD A6 7400K and 2 x 4GB DDR3-1600 RAM.
FreeNAS dashboard shows 6.9GB:
FreeNAS FreeMEM.png

root@freenas[~]# sysctl hw.physmem hw.physmem: 7410421760
During the install, I was told that I did not have the minimum 8GB required, I went back into the BIOS and confirmed that both sticks of RAM were being seen and they were.

I can buy more RAM, but there is clearly some interaction here that I am not understanding.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

Hmmmm, I can't find a way to edit my post and say [SOLVED].
When installing FreeNAS® on a headless system, disable the shared memory settings for the video card in the BIOS.
Every BIOS calls it something different and this old board (2017) defaults to wanting to use a PCI-E graphics card and allocated 1GB to integrated graphics. Can't set it to 0 so setting it to the minimum of 32MB results in 7.9GB and an improved
sysctl hw.physmem hw.physmem: 8450609152
Bottom Line: RTFM. Which is what I am doing now. And more memory is on the way because more is better.
Thank you for not excoriating me ;)
