A USB hub would solve that problem--it'd only be needed for the install itself. Or you could probably do the install via IPMI.

Don't think the server has IPMI... But maybe a different controller...

OK, I know the C6100s do, but I haven't played with the C2100. It is an awfully handy feature to have, but given the price/feature/performance combo of these units I wouldn't complain too much if they didn't.

Yes, you can.
I dont have a USB hub.
It would be worth picking one up, just to have on hand, but there are other ways of addressing the immediate problem (see above).

In short, remote management/control of your server over TCP/IP, often including remote KVM and storage. On my Supermicro server, I can get the server console remotely, and mount .iso files or other storage to it as though they were local disks. Very handy for things like this, as it would avoid the need for two of the three USB ports you're needing right now (the keyboard and the installer could both be done over the network). Some Dell servers of that generation have it, others don't. Dell's product page for the C2100 says it has a network jack for "management", but doesn't specify if that's IPMI or some other protocol. If you aren't already familiar with IPMI, your easiest solution is the one you suggested--do the install on another computer, then plug the newly-made boot device into your C2100.

You should update the controller's version

Yes, but to version 20--version 21 doesn't exist yet (and that warning's supposed to be removed in the most current version). Surprising--I thought these machines were already supposed to be flashed to the correct version.

Yes, it has IPMI. On the back it is the NIC Port on its own. Easiest to use this to install FreeNAS.
So... its in.. what a beast. Bit noisy doh.
Can you elaborate? It should be running BMC Firmware 1.7 or less which will take care of the noise. Due note though that when firing up from a "Cold Start" it will be a louder for a couple of minutes and then will quite down. Subsequent "Warm Reboots" will not have the "Loud Start".

Sorry was out for a couple days, but back and will make sure things go right for you.

So the conclusion. Its all working got my 4 tb sas runing. I had to do a low level format (takes about a day for each drive, but managed to do it all at the same time).
I had to flash some firmware but with the help of Mirfster I managed to do it and learn ALOT. No warnings anymore and running on the latest freenas.
also just entered the 6x2gig sata drives also working. So got 12 drives running 6x4 sas and 6x2 sata. so 36 tb but ofcourse some gone because of safty.
Also a jumper wasnt right on the backboard. the sas controller was on a very old firmware. Now happy with the settup. And thanks again to evryone with the help especialy Mirfster

Great, glad it seems to be working well for you. The shipping to .nl added quite a bit, but I still think that's going to turn out to be the best value for you.
