Hello team,

Just realized that my 14TB Pool for my iSCSI zVOL shows 100% used and 48GB free. For example in the attached jpg, datastor1 with a total capacity of 5TB shows 5TB used and 4.6TB available, but in my VCenter, it shows Freenas01 (mapped to datastor1) total is 5TB and 1.6TB free.

I am not sure if this is normal and I havent seen any performance issues at all.

Can someone elaborate on this?

Thanks,

Yes it is normal. No worry.

For FreeNAS, a zVol is nothing but a bunch of blocks that can hold whatever data they wish. FreeNAS does not "understand" the content. It does not know if something is a file, a folder, some metada, data that are in use, data that has since be deleted, ... They are nothing but a bunch of blocks.

For VCenter, that space has been formatted (probably with VMFS). As such, that one does understand the file system and knows what is used, what is free, etc. That is why it can tell you that some space is free when FreeNAS can not.
