What about searching the Documentation and/or the forums ?

Save Config: save a backup copy of the current configuration database in the format hostname-version-architecture to the computer accessing the web interface. Saving the configuration after making any configuration changes is highly recommended. FreeNAS® automatically backs up the configuration database to the system dataset every morning at 3:45. However, this backup does not occur if the system is shut down at that time. If the system dataset is stored on the boot pool and the boot pool becomes unavailable, the backup will also not be available. The location of the system dataset can be viewed or set using System ➞ System Dataset.

No pic is attached. But think about your question for a minute--you know that the OS lives on a completely different device than your data. Why, then, do you wonder what will happen to your data? You install the OS on a new device (better a SSD than another USB stick), import your pool, and you have your data. Now, since you never bothered to back up your configuration before the boot device failed, you'll need to reconfigure everything from scratch, but (assuming there are no other hardware failures, and that your pool wasn't encrypted) your data is just fine.

Isn't the system dataset created by default on the first storage pool? Config can be imported from there after a reinstall.

True, although not all that easily--it'd really be nice if the web GUI would automatically pick up on that...
