Why do you think we need a whole new section for a version bump. Things didn't change that much.

We have too many sections as it is

I can see your point.

Although when I first decided to post, I spent about 10 minutes looking around to find the FreeNAS 9 section instead of FreeNAS 8. Maybe the next time there's a big forum update a more generic name would serve everyone better.

Wut? There's a FreeNAS 8 section?
The closest thing I've noticed is FreeNAS 4 noobs section and no, that does not pertain to FreeNAS version 4.

It's not a forum per se. There's a 'freenas 8' label, or folder on the main forum index page.

I think it was called that primarily to differentiate it from FreeNAS 7, which was a completely unrelated project.

We have been discussing the poor organization of the forum sections. Ignore the fact that it says version 8. The reason version 8 was needed in the section title before was because of all the people that were flooding the forums from the old FreeNAS project which was at version .7

That old project has nothing to do with this one. There needed to be a way to differentiate the two. Not that anyone paid attention anyway.

So is Freenas 8 not an old project now that Freenas 9.1.1 is the latest ? A lot of the people who use this forum are merely average people that are very interested in what experts can offer in the way of assistance and support.
We are ask to post our questions and/or remarks in the appropriate place, but we are not perfect and some times overlook things as simple as forum thread title. Is this forum for all versions or for Freenas 8 as stated in the headers?

Both 8.x and 9.x will continue to be supported here.

While version 0.7 shared the same name (FreeNAS), it's a different project, that's now known as NAS4Free. Imagine going to a Ubuntu forum and asking for help on openSUSE.

So is Freenas 8 not an old project now that Freenas 9.1.1 is the latest?

The fact that there is a section of the forums called 'FreeNAS 8' does NOT mean that it only relates to 8.x. The forums have NOT been updated to reflect that we are indeed on 9.x.

There is not enough of a difference between 8.3.x and 9.1.x to warrant an entire new section of forums....good god, we would double the amount of useless sections and posts if we did that.

Please simply ignore the 'FreeNAS 8' banner above the door, it was merely an indicator/deterrent (that obviously didnt work for all that came in here) to the ones that came in looking for the new version of FreeNAS .7, which literally has nothing to do with FreeNAS/iXSystems.

So, Alfred. In answer to your question, no, FreeNAS 8.3.x is NOT an old project. It is still openly supported here.
If you came in asking about FreeNAS .7, you would be kindly shown the door. ;)
