I am getting quite a lot of console messages like this:

Code:
Feb 24 19:28:21 Schnigges-NAS smbd[28287]: [2014/02/24 19:28:21.674351, 0] ../lib/util/charset/convert_string.c:438(convert_string_talloc_handle)
Feb 24 19:28:21 Schnigges-NAS smbd[28287]: Conversion error: Incomplete multibyte sequence(M-^Anster (bis 12.2008))

I guess "-^A" is supposed to be an "ü" - are there issues with non ASCII characters now??
I don't know if this is the cause, but top also shows smbd at 100% CPU:

Go through each of my files? If theres something wrong with the charset in samba so we have to change it, then go through our files manually, and change it back that doesnt really sound like a solution. Or maybe I just don't understand.

You don't have to thank me! j/k

I'm not sure what 'go through your files' means when you should only need to change the character set being used. It's a single change.

If you have filename screwup like the one guy did and you have duplicate files or whatever then yes, you do have to fix it by hand. The damage was done when the files were copied to the server and you either have to undo said damage by hand, write a script to do the work for you, or delete the damage and restore from another source.

In the ticket he says he changes it then changed it back? Im not really sure which is the correct solution? I guess I have to copy and delete my files until it works?

Honestly, I don't know. I've got files with weird names and they all copied over fine when I first migrated to FreeNAS back in 8.0.4.

Ok. the weird thing is the folders with blank names that when viewed on my CIFS share look like they loop back into the main folder.

Another strange thing, my console messages disappear...

Is there a way to re-open the ticket? I have added some new info I find strange and I still cant seem to get it to work properly.

You can post to a ticket that's closed and hope someone will reopen it. I have the power to reopen tickets but I won't unless there's some damn compelling evidence that there is actually a bug that needs developer attention.

Well Ive got some more observations, since you're replying here I'll tell you about it.
First is the blank console in the webGUI. This only started AFTER I tried to set up Rsync. I have set up two rsync modules and run the rsync client on my windows box.

Next thing, isn't CIFS using SAMBA? Because I have no trouble with my CIFS and copying the same folder with CIFS that I am trying to copy with Rsync works fine if I "drag and drop" it on my windows box. The folder is my music collection so I want to set up rsync so when I add new music to my library it gets copied over.

So do you have any ideas about my console? What can I post to give you more information?

Console stuff: No clue. There's so many things that could be the cause I can't even begin to point you in a direction. All I can say is do some googling and see if you can figure it out.

Samba is CIFS. If everything is correct in CIFS but not in rsync then it sounds like something is going on with rsync. Either software bug, improper configuration, etc.

I also only got the special characters issue after using rsync between my old FreeNAS (9.2.0) system and my new one (9.2.1 at the time).
