Hi

I have a problem with FreeNAS 9.10 after reboot after a successful installation. When it reboots, it gives me an ip address of 0.0.0.0 and I can't access the server from another PC on my network(no internet is available on the network)! I have researched a lot on Google and emailed a lot of people I know, but no one can help me. I really want to use FreeNAS for my home server and nothing else. Please help me!
I would really appreciate help from anyone who knows how to fix this problem!
I am using my old gaming PC just for testing before I want to buy a PC for FreeNAS, the specs are:
FreeNAS 9.10 latest STABLE (I don't know if it's the 32-bit or 64-bit version)
Hardware:
  • Motherboard: Biostar H61m-MLV3 Ver.8.0
  • CPU: Intel Core i5 2400 3.1 GHz
  • RAM: Adata 4GB
  • Hard Drive: Seagate 500GB
  • Add-On cards: Gigabyte Geforce GT 730 2GB DDR3
  • I use cat5e ethernet cables
  • A TP-LINK 8-Port 10/100Mbps Desktop Switch
  • The PC's are running windows 7 and I manually set up the ip addresses of the PC's
Thanks!

Is there a DHCP server on your network? If so, is it plugged into the same switch as the FreeNAS system?

Hi

Thanks for the fast reply!
Sorry, is a DHCP server when all the PC's ip addresses are assigned automatically? If so then no. I personally set up all 3 PC's ip addresses using 192.168.137.?
I wonder if I did something wrong, because the network and sharing center says "Unidentified Network", so maybe that's the problem.

If there is no DHCP server on your network, then you'll need to configure the network interface on your server manually. It's one of the options on the console menu. I'm not certain that your NIC will be supported, though--a Realtek 10/100 NIC is going to be a certified antique, and it's entirely possible that it isn't supported on FreeNAS.

None of your hardware is anywhere close to suitable for running FreeNAS with actual data on it--it might suffice for testing purposes, but be prepared for poor performance and stability.
