OK...I'm going nuts here. I have a 4x1TB RAID z1 array that was running on a 32 bit 8.2. I built another machine running 64 bit 8.3. On first boot, I auto-imported the ZFS volume, all datasets imported just fine. Like an idiot, however, I did a zpool upgrade, so there's no going back.

Upon a reboot of the box, the volume went away!!!! I rebooted, and there was no volume there. At this point, I said the hell with it and just did a reinstall of FreeNAS 8.3, not an upgrade install, but a regular install. Upon reinstall, I did an auto import again. The raid ID comes up, I select auto import, and it returns an error saying that it could not import the volume. Not too informative, and there are no volumes listed in the GUI, but if I go into a shell, and do a zpool status, I get the following:

pool: RAID
state: ONLINE
status: One or more devices has experienced an error resulting in data corruption. Applications may be affected.
action: Restore the file in question if possible. Otherwise restore the entire pool from backup.
see: http://www.sun.com/msg/ZFS-8000-8A
scan: none requested
config:

NAME STATE READ WRITE CKSUM
RAID ONLINE 0 0 1
raidz1-0 ONLINE 0 0 2
gptid/32ea520c-031e-11e2-b182-000acd1fbb8d ONLINE 0 0 0

Now, upon another reboot, the ZFS volume is still gone, and now a zpool status says no pools available. So, tried autoimport again, same issue. Error: could not import ZFS Volume, even though the ZFS volume appears in the auto import field. Now, I'm OK if there was some data corruption on one of the drives, but all 4 of them? I'm not buying that for a minute. I'm using RAID z1 with 4 drives to protect against a single drive failure bringing the system down. Can anyone please help?

Here are the system properties:
Hostname freenas.local
Build FreeNAS-8.3.0-BETA3-x64 (r12468M)
Platform AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 4600+
Memory 4080MB
System Time Fri Oct 12 05:37:57 PDT 2012
Uptime 5:37AM up 3 mins, 0 users
Load Average 0.24, 0.34, 0.16
Connected through 192.168.2.179

I know, I should NEVER have upgraded the ZFS volume to 28 before backing things up, my bad. I need the data on this, though. Can anyone point me in some direction here?

Thanks!

Any ideas?? Basically, the volume does not exist in the GUI. I even tried a zpool import -f RAID, and that returns the following:
cannot import 'RAID': one or more devices is currently unavailable

Update.
It appears that things are spiriling now. Within the GUI, if I select Auto Import Volume, the volume RAID with the identifying number is there and selectable. I then click on Import and get the following:
Select a valid choice. RAID is not one of the available choices

Then, selecting Import again generates the following:
Request Method: POST
Request URL: http://freenas/storage/auto-import/

From a SSH session as root paste the output of:
Code:
zpool status -v

glabel status

mount

Also, for each disk the SMART info:
Code:
smartctl -q noserial -a /dev/adaX
Throw the output inside of some [code][/code] tags as it will preserve the formatting and keep my eyes from crossing.

Awesome...Here's the output:

Going to put the smartctl outputs in another post.

This one appeared. Maybe you're making your posts too long. put each output in a separate message (you'll probably have to wait 2 minutes between each post) or host it on pastebin and link to it. something.

It was flagged for moderation. Wait until a moderator approves it or you could post the output to pastebin or wherever.

Thank you. Just frustrated here, and concerned about about 70 movie rips, and some work files on that ZFS volume.

193 Load_Cycle_Count is higher than it needs to be on ada1. Both ada3 & ada4 have issues. 199 UDMA_CRC_Error_Count is high for both drives, ada4 in particular. There are multiple possible causes, but junk SATA cables and "loose" SATA connections are common ones.

Code:
zpool import

you forgot the mount command. Or is was lost of Copy/Paste
No point as the pool isn't imported. Of course you would know that if you understood why I was asking for it. Also, convention is to limit the signature to 4 lines or less, thanks.

Thanks for the tip, just making sure you got all the data you asked for.

Since you mentioned it, why were you asking for it?

It wasn't clear to me how far along ghostlobster was with the import. It's possible to have the pool imported, but the datasets not mounted. In this case the pool isn't currently imported which also means it won't be mounted.

Just swapped out all 4 SATA cables, and the UDMA CRC Error count remained exactly as it was on all 4 drives. This time, before doing anything in the GUI, I went to a CLI and tried a zpool import and received the following:
Code:
[root@freenas ~]# zpool import -f
   pool: RAID
     id: 10036866808421506734
  state: FAULTED
status: One or more devices contains corrupted data.
action: The pool cannot be imported due to damaged devices or data.
The pool may be active on another system, but can be imported using
        the '-f' flag.

I find it really hard to handle all 4 drives showing as corrupted. is there anyway to clean these drives at all?
Additionally, would flakey power show this issue? I have no reason to believe that I am having PSu issues, but I've seen bad power cause some strangeness. Also, I've got one of the SATA power splitters providing power to 2 of the drives from one actual power connector. I'm going to shut down again and make certain that all power is on its own cable just to be certain.
In the mean time, any other ideas or suggestions?

***Edited. Nope, put each drive on its own power connector, still no go. exact same results and output.
Augh!!!

I did not and I am not requesting the -f. I was asking for what zpool import saw and not even importing the pool yet. You do realize you have a non-redundant pool, a 3 x disk raidz vdev & a single disk stripe vdev.

I find it really hard to handle all 4 drives showing as corrupted.
Agreed. You are doing this under FreeNAS-8.3.0-BETA3-x64 correct? I've read about this happening on earlier FreeBSD 8, I think, when the disks were "out of order". ZFS should simply retaste the disks in this case unless i.e. the hostid is different. I think it is the fact that the zpool cache file no longer matches reality. I believe an export/import will fix it.

Also, just to confirm, the output of:
Code:
zdb -l /dev/ada2p2

Pal;eon,
Forst, thanks for all the help here. I really appreciate it.
About the -f flag, sorry about that, got over zealous. performing a zpool import does nothing. It just returns back to the command prompt:
Code:
[root@freenas ~]# zpool import
[root@freenas ~]#

Here's the output from zdb -l /dev/ada2p2

You mean I set this up incorrectly for redundancy? I thought RAIDZ1 was a redundancy setup, like RAID5? I'm so clieless with this! Damn, OK, once I get things back on their feet here, then I can figure out how to get this how I want it...after backing everything up first, of course.

Oh, and yes, beta3 of x64 8.3.

About the -f flag, sorry about that, got over zealous. performing a zpool import does nothing.
Yes, well it wouldn't as you already force imported the pool. ;)

Here's the output from zdb -l /dev/ada2p2
Good, the labels on the stripe vdev appear fine. I thought they would be.

The problem is you have a raidz1 vdev and a single disk, i.e. RAID0, vdev. All the individual vdevs of a pool need to be redundant in order for the pool be redundant. As you said, we can deal with this once we're there.

Export the pool:
Code:
zpool export RAID
If needed, in this particular instance, you can add a -f to the export. Try without it first.

Then:
Code:
zpool import
With no arguments please.
