Hello,
i'm starting to checkup FreeNAS 11-U1 in a VMWare Workstation. Mainboard in the Testsystem is a AMD Mainboard (no Intel).
The initial installation works fine in VMWare .... but ....
- bacula-SD
- OwnCloud
stoped the installation of the plugin at step 3/6 (Creating template)
the progress bar is everytime the same
39% in the top
35% in the button
in the plugin progress bar. the plugins are not installed and usable :(

any idea, what happed ;)

VMWare system
2 x 10 GB virtual disks (1x10GB for FreeNAS OS and additional 10GB for testing
4 GB RAM

thank forward
Hannes

The minimum specs for FreeNAS when used solely for file serving (i.e.: without any plugins or VMs defined within FreeNAS) comprise 8GB RAM. When planning for plugins better use 16GB RAM.

BTW: It doesn't make sense to write English postings in the German subforum, where only a subset of helping users can be reached.

Hallo zusammen,

OP says VMware only allows for 7GB of RAM for the VM. The additional amount doesn't seem to have made a difference and every attempt to install a plugin hangs at the same point.

Hi together,
my issue during a plugin installation is solved :) but the issue was more than tricky :(
The running UTM (Unified Thread Management - Layer7) Firewall blocked at the reported point a download, because this download was tagged as "Eicar Test Virus", so the communication was blocked to the required resources in the extranet  after configuration an separate App-Layer, the download was working as described, and the service was usable ;)

The "small" training system is working with 4 core CPU and 4 GB RAM :D

Thx and regards
Hannes

Hello Community,
i'm back at FreeNAS but based on Supermicro system :)
it's my first installation of this single node system and there is a questoinmark in my mind that require help ;)

Situation
the root folder has a hand of subfolsders with data (that's working fine).

Requirement
Is there a supported possibility to configure different snapshot cycles and retention (e.g. every folder has a different sheduler config for making snapshots ? we are talking about simple office files (word, excel, powerpoint).
Is this possible in a supported config ?

Thx and regards
Hannes

Snapshots operate at the dataset level, not the directory level. If you do have folders (and not datasets), you'll need to fix that before you can configure more granular snpashot schedules.

No, but you can have as many datasets (including children) as you want.
