I have five 3TB drives setup as a Z1 RAID. I am running 11.3. I lost one drive as a complete failure, but the system was still working in the degraded state. I could not take the bad drive offline because it didn't show in the list. I replaced the drive physically. When I rebooted, it had lost my single pool. I tried uploading my last good config and it hangs in the reboot at the point where it is loading the pool. I then rebooted with a clean new install of FreeNAS and it says my pool is still available in a probable degraded status. I attempt to force an import in the shell using the -f and -F flags. Both cause the system to apparently hang with no activity.
i am using this system in an entirely domestic/hobby environment. No life or death scenarios here! I have read many other similar strands and it seems to me that I am probably hosed and I have to face a week of reloading data from backup sources! I am an old timer engineer who is into FreeNAS way over my head!
before I finally pull the trigger, are there any other suggestions to get back my pool?
